Why I Built Slash-32 (And What It Cost)

This wasn’t some “founder moment.” No whiteboard. No TED Talk epiphany. Just me, a dark room, some aching feet, and a strong desire to build something real before I burned out completely.

Slash-32 didn’t start because I wanted to be a fashion designer.
If we’re being totally honest…I really didn’t even want to be a “brand.” I just wanted to make some fun t-shirts related to IT content, because either they were too few and far in between, or just overly ridiculously that no one would get the joke or even bother to try and figure it out. That and the fact that I just got tired of not seeing us out there.

Us — the tech folks who think in IPs, breathe in binary, and can rebuild a broken stack with these essential ingredients: Code Red, Monster and Red Bull (Your fancy) and no thanks.
The veterans, the ones from the trenches — not just in code, but in life.

That’s who I built this brand for.

The Spark (and the Crash)

You ever hit a point where your body just…rebels and starts throwing exception errors?

Knees unstable. Shin splints flaring. Mind heavy. I was/am still there.

Trying to juggle it all: work, family, pain, ideas that wouldn’t leave me alone — all while wondering if I was slowly coding myself into irrelevance. Like, what am I building this for? It has to be for a purpose because its just too much to not be purpose filled!

Then it hit me.

What if we had clothing that spoke the language we think in?
Not gimmicks. Not clout-chasing.
Just gear that makes you feel seen — like someone actually gets what you do.

YEEEEEERRRREEKa! That was it.
Slash-32 was born from that exact question — and a whole lot of trial, error, and late-night Google searches.

More Than a Shirt

It’s not just a hoodie with binary on it.
It’s not cosplay for coders.

It’s Infrawear™ — clothes built for those of us who keep the world spinning quietly in the background.
The sysadmin who never left the server room.
The vet who still marches, just in sneakers now.
The tech who couldn’t find a fit — so we built our own.

Every piece has a reason. A reference. A real voice underneath it.
And yeah, the Binary Translator App? That’s real too.
You can scan the shirt and decode it — because your story deserves to be part of the fit.

But Serioulsy? It’s Cost Me.…A lot.

This didn’t come easy.
There was no investor safety net. No team of stylists. Just me, pushing pixels and fabric swatches at the same time.

I’ve sacrificed time with my son.
I’ve questioned myself. Them doubt seeds definitely don’t taste like sunflowers 🙁
Launched the site, only for it to crash within minutes. (Yeah, that happened. High Noon panic included.)
But even when the stress hit 100%, I still couldn’t stop. Because deep down? This means something.

I’m not doing this for hype. I’m doing this because we’ve been overlooked too long — and I’d rather risk it all building something real than be another voice faking it for a like.

Layer 8, Always

In tech, Layer 8 is the human.
The part that forgets the semicolon, but still ships the update.
The one that cries in the bathroom between fixing other people’s problems.

This brand?
This blog?
It’s Layer 8.

It’s all me right here, right now— raw, real, in motion.
